"Comments are closed" problem opening them

Each page shows "comments are closed" at the bottom. I want all pages to be able to be commented on (for now).

There is one page which someone has somehow managed to leave a comment and that page does not show this message at the bottom. That was several weeks ago and when i had another theme.

I've done the following (it's been that way all along):
1) ATO->Style & configure COMMENTS->Allow comments on "Page" pages, too? must be set to YES
2) dashboard->Pages->Edit->page-you-want->Discussion->Allow Comments - must be checked.

Just now I deactivated all my plugins and no change.

Also, I've spent some time searching the WP.org forums. I've found the issue raised several times but none resolved. Example: http://wordpress.org/support/topic/258518?replies=6.

Atahualpa 3.4.2
WP 2.8.3

what is your url?

scott1137 Aug 6, 2009 11:56 AM

http://scottswebshop.org/wp2/

Just now I published some content on the home page and the comments are opened. On one other page there is content, another none yet. Both still say "Comments closed."

What plugins do you have? I'm woundering where the 'subscribe without commenting' comes from at the bottom of the page if you select the 'Scott’s Web Shop' tag?

scott1137 Aug 6, 2009 01:56 PM

I have about a dozen. The ones that seem pertinent are:
Subscribe to comments
Subscribe to comments now
WP Ajax Edit Comments
Contact Form 7

The others:
Akismet
All in One SEO Pack
Bad Behavior
Google XML Sitemaps
Hello Dolly
Search Docs
Sociable
WordPress Database Backup
WordPress Mobile Edition
WP-PageNavi
WP-Print

have you tried disabling them?

scott1137 Aug 6, 2009 09:13 PM

Yes. Disabled all of them with no change in behavior.

It may be more of a curiosity if I post some content on the Resources page and that page then allows comments.

Nonetheless, I'm willing to try to solve this.

Interestingly, if you go in through the webserver (which Google does if you search "Scott's Web Shop" with the quotes) you get a different setup:

than when you go to

Morning,
Can you use phpAdmin and go in and look at the database. It looks like you only have two posts ands a couple pages. In the database, look at wp_posts and the column is 'comment_status'. Do all the rows have a status of 'open'?

scott1137 Aug 7, 2009 09:59 AM

Yes, both (there are two) have status as "open."

These two posts have as content,
"Welcome to WordPress. This is your first post. Edi..."
&
"This is an example of a WordPress page, you could ..."

The first is titled "Hello World"; the second, "About."

I've begun posting content on my resources page and would like visitors to make suggestions but page doesn't allow comments:

What am I missing?

juggledad Aug 9, 2009 04:27 AM

Scott, not going to be able to figure this out without 'taking a peek under the covers'. I'll send you a PM

Any updates to this? I'm having a similar issue. Thanks.

juggledad Dec 28, 2009 04:18 AM

I think this will fix it http://forum.bytesforall.com/showthr...1593#post21593

Flur Dec 28, 2009 09:13 AM

Will that solution work for me when my issue is not on pages but on all posts? Details here: http://forum.bytesforall.com/showthread.php?t=5028
