4 side by side widgets in footer
 

I am trying to alter the code to give me 4 side-by-side widgets, but I can't seem to get it to work.

This is the code I am trying:

when you go to the widget area, do you see 4 widgets?
try adding an '_' in place of the blank between 'footer_widgets' and 'area'

ok cool, I figured that part out, now i just need to figure out how to style it the way I want it to look. I don't want all the widgets to be the same, so how should I just style the footer widgets? I'm still pretty new with php and css so where do I need to go to change things?
