Backing up WP site via XCloner - problem with Atahualpa theme options

I'm using the XCloner plugin to backup a WP site which has the Atahualpa theme, and getting stuck when it comes to cloning the bfa_ata4 options record.

Before we start, I've tried exporting the theme options from the original site and importing them into the target site, and yes, that works fine. It also creates a completely identical record in the wp_options table, so my questions is, why doesn't simply cloning the database work?

The reason for wanting this is that XCloner will regularly and without intervention back up the site to a remote server, so that if the main server is unavailable, we can easily switch to an alternate. Once the original server is down, I won't be able to export the Atahualpa theme options, and I don't want to rely on a manual process as part of the backup.

So, what is it about simply copying the record that is upsetting the theme? Is there something that the XCloner software could do to emulate the 'import' feature and get it to work?
