[SOLVED] Full size image not thumbnail for excerpts

New to wordpress and atahualpa. Just started a food blog a couple days ago so far so good i've figured out a bunch of the css and the modding is coming along well. however...

I am using quite a few images for each post so in order or my site to be easy to navigate i only want to have an excerpt and 1 full size image for each post.

http://www.travellingkitchen.com/

The irony here is that the pumpkin cake post I hijacked from my free wordpress.com site so the images are actually being hosted there and that post looks how i want it to. On the other hand the Alfredo post is all endogenous and so it has a featured image with a wee thumbnail which really doesn't work for food porn. I have tried doing away with the featured image but then i get no image at all.

Also important to mention I add <img> to the don't strip field in excerpts which is why the cake post works properly.

I also tried upping post thumbnail values up to w600 x h400 so that maybe it would still show original size.

advice please

Click and clack, I'll take my answer of the air.

sweet jesus more playing around and it gets stranger. I guess whati am asking is can how do you insert an image into the manual excerpt. I had one set up for one post and not the other which is what triggered one image and not the other. however i would really like to use manual excerpts because it is so much more professional than an arbitrary word count.

got it the more tag to break up the post where i want it and remove featured image. and leave in the don't strip <img> in the excerpt options.
