Turning off Table Styling

This is probably a very simple question but it's frustrating the hell out of me this evening.

I love the default table format and have used it a fair bit throughout my site. However, I want to use a table within a page as a means of positioning text. The table itself to be invisible to the user.

Is there a way to do this simply with a tag within the
HTML Code:

<TABLE> element
?

This is probably CSS 101 but I'm struggling to find a way of doing this

The entire page is a table, so where do you want to position the text?

The page is make up of the
header
middle
footer
the middle has - left sidebar, left inner sidebar, center, right inner sidebar, right sidebar
the center is made up of one or more of
kicker
headline
byline
body
footer

so you can see deciding where teh text is to go will determine how to put it there
