New double-length widget area on top of two existing sidebars

What's the preferred method for creating a new double-length widget area 3 on top of two existing sidebars 1 & 2, as illustrated below?
Thanks!

Code:

+----+ +-----------------+
|    | |                |
|Cen-| |  Sidebar 3    |
|ter | |                |
|col-| +-----------------+
|umn | +-------+ +-------+
|    | |      | |      |
|    | |Sidebar| |Sidebar|
|    | |  1  | |  2  |
|    | |      | |      |
+----+ +-------+ +-------+

There is a writeup 'HOWTO: put an AD (or other) widget over/in the middle/under two sidebars' in the Gold Members Tutorials forum that explains this.

The Gold forums are open to members who have donated $20 or more.
