How do I put only the most recent post on the home page ...

... and still have a separate blog page.

WP 3.3.1
Atahualpa theme 3.7.3

I've searched the WP Codex / Forums and BFA for this and found a few threads, but none appear to work for me.

In WP Settings > Reading I have 'front' page set to a page I made called Home. And 'posts' page is set to my page called Blog

But I want to have the Home page also show *only* the most recent post. Perhaps with a heading such as "Latest Post:

There's a good example at http://www.alastaircampbell.org/

Is there perhaps a plugin I can use which will let me use a shortcode on the Home page and pull in the most recent post.

I just feel as though I am missing something and I am re-inventing the wheel.

TIA for any help and suggestions.

The List Category Posts plugin should do what you want. I may take a bit to wrap your head around the setup but bottom line is you could target one post from a particular category with a piece of shortcode.

You could also just set your home page to show latest posts and then set your WP option to only show one post by then if you want to have other pages to shoe more posts you would have to use the List Category Posts plugin on them.

I hope that's clear.
