[SOLVED] How to implement an "got idea" page?
My website consists of mostly static pages and uses the "category post" widget on the sidebar for "post" related features.
I want to add a "got idea" capability to my website to allow visitor to post an idea, vote on an idea, view comment, and add comment to the idea. I am not sure how to go about doing this as I am still learning my way around Wordpress and Atahualpa theme (btw I love what I seem so far and will donate once I am employed). Any guidance you can provide is greatly appreciated. -Sara: |
well you could look for a plug-in or
use the blog as the 'got idea' page, make the users regester and then be contributers so they could create posts, add a 'vote' plugin and see how that works. |
Can you recommend some plugins? I did a search on google and was not able to find anyway - could be because I am not using the right search words/phrases.
Regarding option 2, I assigned the "got an idea" page as post under setting/reading. However, the page display the posts from my "News" category. How do I prevent the posts from displaying on the 'got an idea' page except, for example, posts from a specific category? I found a couple of poll plugins. Do you have a specific one that you would recommend? |
sorry, no suggestions for plugins - I was just tossing out ideas, but there might be a plugin as you noted, having the right search phrase is key.
as for idea 2, you need to look again for a plugin to display just from one category. 'Category pages', sorta of works, but it is no longer updated |
After searching high and low, I figured out the following plugins and templating feature of Wordpress will allow me to do what I needed -- with some PHP coding:
1. created one or more page templates and associate them to my "got idea" pages. 2. leverage TDO Mini Form to allow visitors to post idea. 3. embed/inlining (more digging into) WP-Polls onto my page or page template to enable voting on an idea. I am still learning my way around Wordpress and Atahualpa theme - a consolidated documentation and examples would help speed up the learning curve. Still, it is better than having to code everything from group up :) -Sara |
