[SOLVED] Lost home page when added a new page

Hi all -
I've used WP before and just started a brand new one today.

I added a new page and then lost my home page. My "new" page has become the "sticky" home page. Clicking the header and the home button takes me back to the "new" page I created.

I've changed the order and parent of the new page. Nothing works.

I then deleted the new page and received an error message that said something like the page you are looking for cannot be found.

What in the world did I do?!

I'm using WP 3.0.1 with Atahualph 3.4.9. My blog is www.dreamynest.com
Please help!
Thank you!

How do you have Settings>Reading configured with regards to static and blog page?

ShelMel Aug 19, 2010 09:50 PM

I just double checked to make sure, but it's set for my latest posts.

My blog posts were there, until I added the Advertising page.

Even deleting the Advertising page doesn't restore my HOME blog posts page.

FYI - I resaved my Reading settings to blog posts. Just for good measure. No change.

I've also set my Advertising page to 'Private' and it still shows up.

Also, when mousing over the header and the HOME menu button, the link shows www.dreamynest.com but instead routes to http://www.dreamynest.com/advertise

I'm at a loss on how to fix this.

What happens if you deactivate your plugins?

ShelMel Aug 19, 2010 10:39 PM

Which plugins? All of them? I've got 14 active plugins.

All of them were installed and everything was normal until I added a new page.

I'll deactive them all and see what happens and come back to let you know. Give me just a few minutes.

Thank you!!

ShelMel Aug 19, 2010 10:46 PM

Wow.

Ok. Deactivated all 14 plugins.

And my posts/home page is back.

I changed my Advertising page back to public and everything is cool now.

What do I do from here? Do I reactivate each plugin all at once or one-by-one?

How do I figure out which plugin was causing the problem?

Thank you so much for helping me.

With only 14 plugins I would probably activate 7 of them and see what happens and narrow it down from there.

ShelMel Aug 19, 2010 10:52 PM

LOL - Only 14? I thought that was a lot. :)

Okay. I'll try that and catch you up from there. I saw there were a few posts here that had similar issues to mine but no resolution. When I find the problem, I'll let you know.

I'll be back in a few.

Thank you Larry! You rock!

Found it!!!

It was a plugin "Redirection" which I installed to help with my blogger migration links, etc.

I installed it earlier today with no problems. Guess it took a while to kick in.

I've activated all the other plugins and things are back to normal.

I'm making a donation. Bless you!

Glad you are back working. Sometimes the interaction between plugins can be "interesting"

Also one suggestion would be to increase the width of your right inner sidebar to about 225px so that the whole Google Friend Connect badge is within the borders.

ShelMel Aug 19, 2010 11:18 PM

Thank you, Larry! Donation made! :)

Yup, I'm getting to that inner-right sidebar. I hope I can find it. My brain is dead now after messing with this lost home/post page ordeal. Thanks for the sizing tip. I was just gonna play with it until I figured it out and actually was in the middle of messing with the Google Friend Connect code to resize it instead. Guess I'll reset those changes and resize the sidebar instead. :)

Nite and many blessings!
