My dowloaded Themes does not appear after configuring them

Hi there,

I downloaded a couple of themes from WordPress link not long ago. And I follow its configuration instructions ie install, configure, etc. And once I activated and tried to view it, I got a blank page. No page errors, nothing. I don't know what's happening and I would like someone who can help me out with this one. Thank you and your help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers!

Only with Atahualpa or with other themes, too? Try disabling a few plugins first, perhaps the available PHP memory is very limited on your web hosting account

I disabled the plugins, and retry applying the new themes. Still no luck...

Yes. Apparently, it's Atahualpa theme and Gears theme that's affected. I haven't try others. But I picked these two because I like them. Regardless, the result remain the same :(

How do I determine how much the PHP memory is available under my account? (Obviously I'll have to log this call with my web hosting company's helpdesk for a start.)

Create a file with this content
PHP Code:

<?php phpinfo(); ?>

save it as phpinfo.php, upload it and call it in your browser http://www.yourdomain.com/phpinfo.php

I am not sure if phpinfo lists the memory but I think it does

WPuser1001 Mar 6, 2009 12:39 AM

I've done it.

It says the memory limit is about 32 Megabytes.

How much memory does Atahualpa need?

Flynn Mar 6, 2009 01:34 AM

Not much. 32MB is enough

WPuser1001 Mar 6, 2009 04:21 AM

Oh dear. If that's the case, my problem is more complicated to solve. It's going to be headache...:(

Is there anything else I can do to troubleshoot this further?

Try the default theme. If that works try another uploaded theme, one without options. If no theme works you should talk to your host.

I think I may know why it doesn't appear. My host came back to me explaining that i could be running an older version of Wordpress. This is a common cause of problem for themes not working. How do I determine the current version of my Wordpress?

Flynn Mar 6, 2009 05:42 PM

I don't know where in ancient versions, but somewhere on the main page of the administration area there should be something like "You're running Wordpress X.xx".

Atahualpa should work with WP 2.3 though, probably with 2.2, too. Your version has to be quite old then

WPuser1001 Mar 7, 2009 03:26 PM

Hi Flynn,

Just checked my WP admin pages. At the bottom of the page, it say Wordpress 2.2.1.

Guess that's my current version.

Should I try upgrade to WP 2.7 and see that helps to resolve the issue?

Flynn Mar 7, 2009 03:35 PM

I would recommend that. Atahualpa used to work with 2.2 too but seems not anymore. I have not checked 2.2 for a while and I planned to drop that version anyway now that 2.7 is here and 2.8 is coming in a few months.

2.3 also has an error right now but I fixed it in Atahualpa 3.2.1

WPuser1001 Mar 12, 2009 02:04 AM

Hi Flynn,

Thanks so much for the help. I went to Wordpress site, downloaded 2.7 version, installed on my hosted site, and change to Atahualpa them. And it worked!!! :) Like a charm.

You're right. 2.2 is old. And 2.7 has so many features I always wanted to have when doing blogging. Should have done this ages ago.

Anyway, thanks again for your great help. :)
