404 for "no results" after search?
 

Hi,
when I enter a search term that can not be found (0 results), I get an 404 error. Is this the normal behvaiour? Is it a problem of Wordpress, Atahualpa or maybe my search plugin (Relevanssi)? How can I change that? I would rather have it display the term that was entered and post a message that it could not be found.

did you try determinng the culpret by trying it with rwenty-eleven? turning off the plugin?

Not until now (of course...). It also happens with Relevanssi turned off, so it is either wordpress or the theme. Unfortunately I can not change the theme on the blog in question. But I tried it on another Wordpress installation with Athualpa and at least I can say that between "Twenty Eleven" and Atahualpa there is a difference in the messages.

Atahualpa says:
Not Found
Sorry, but you are looking for something that isn't here.

Twenty Eleven says:
Nothing Found
Sorry, but nothing matched your search criteria. Please try again with some different keywords.

Which is at least a bit better.

Checking back with the blog in question I found that the "no results" page might actually not be the "real" 404 page because it does not have 404 in the meta title (the "real" one has it). The text is the same, though.

So where could I possible change the text?

OK, I used the information in this thread to fix it:

Maybe I can find a way to implement the actual term that was searched for into the page so that users might detect possible spellings mistakes.
