Archives separated by month/category with postbypost

How do I get the Archives to be separated by month/category with a postbypost listing beneath each month/category? For example:

August 2010
* Post A
* Post B
* Post C

July 2010
* Post D
* Post E
* Post F

Or

Category 1
* Post A
* Post C
* Post D

Category 2
* Post B
* Post E
* Post F

Using:
WordPress 3.0.1
Atahualpa 3.5.3
