Adding space between top menu and center column

I'm using a variation on the round template here:
http://docfilm.com/site/about/

You can see that the top nave menu is overlapping the shadow area around my center column. I've tried adding a margin to the center column, no good.

I tried adding a "bar" under the menu, but it's a solid color so that was no good.

I tried adding an invisible widget there, but it went bad when I started styling the sidebar widgets. All of a sudden my invisible widget was blue like the rest of them.

Any suggestions?

Set the background color of a bar to transparent

Thanks, I didn't think that was possible!
