Images Not Wide Enough

Hey!
I'm not sure if this question has been answered already, but hopefully someone can answer it again if it has.

The images on my site are simply too small. They do not take up the complete center area, leaving too much white space between them and the side bar. Is there any way to fix this?

You can visit my site to see what I mean. www.AshleyGaGa.com.

Many Thanks!

You need to upload images that are wider.

IamAshleyGaGa Apr 5, 2013 06:44 PM

Hi!
Thanks for your response. However, I really don't think the answer is that simple. I have uploaded an image that is 1000 x 2000px and nothing happened. All of the images are resized to a small proportion. When I alter the size of the image in my HTML view, the images re-crop themselves within that container. However, they never appear wide enough to fit the content area.

I feel like there is something holding these images into this space. But I'm not sure what.

Any guesses?

point to a image you feel is at issue, they all look big enough to me.

What are your settings in Appearance > Media?
When you put them in the post which size are you selecting?

IamAshleyGaGa Apr 5, 2013 07:00 PM

Hi,
Thanks for responding!
In Settings>Media I have my Medium and Large images set at 800 x 1000.

I used the Inspector Element tool on my browser and found that none of my images are larger than 640 wide. Strange, because in my post editor, I set them all to 800 wide.

IamAshleyGaGa Apr 5, 2013 07:02 PM

Strangely, the image borders seem to adjust very well.
However, the images themselves will not.

juggledad Apr 5, 2013 08:02 PM

what browser are you using? they resize in Safari on a mac.
have you tried a different browser?

IamAshleyGaGa Apr 5, 2013 08:15 PM

I'm using Chrome.
I just opened my mac's Safari browser and I noticed the same problem, which means I may not be explaining myself correctly. I wil try again.

Around every image on my site, there is a gold border. Unfortunately, the images does not completely fill in the space between the gold border, leaving a large white space between the border and the image. When I remove the border, the image remains in its location, leaving a large white space between the image and the sidebar widget area. I would like for my images to be the size of the center content area.

If you click on this link, you will notice that my text is able to expand the length of the content area. However, my images are unable to do so. http://www.ashleygaga.com/the-weave-...am-extensions/

The images on my site are very large and should be able to fill the content area. However, they do not.

I see a 90 px padding on the images. You need to take that off first. The top image in your example is only 640px wide. It should be about 800px wide if you want it to fill the whole area.

IamAshleyGaGa Apr 6, 2013 05:44 AM

Thanks for your response. This sounds great.
But how do I take the padding off of the images?
I have tried going to ATO>Style Images but that doesn't seem to work.

IamAshleyGaGa Apr 6, 2013 05:55 AM

Actually, I have gone into ATO>Style Images and removed the padding.
Then I resized my image to 1000x1500. The image is now distorted.
There seems to be something holding the image in this place. I would like for the image to extend the entire width of the content area, in the same way that the text does.

Please visit this link to see an example.

FYI: The code for this image is:
<a href="http://www.ashleygaga.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/101_1353.jpg"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-5950" alt="101_1353" src="http://www.ashleygaga.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/101_1353.jpg" width="1000" height="15000" /></a>

However, it is not showing up this way.

lmilesw Apr 6, 2013 06:03 AM

The image that is there has a width of 640px and a height of 4000px.

It is also not optimized for web and has a rather large file size.

IamAshleyGaGa Apr 6, 2013 06:36 AM

OK. Well, thanks for your help.
I'm a little worried that I won't find a resolution to my problem as this is happening with all of my images, not just the example I've given to you. It is strange that my videos and text fill the content area, however my images do not. Should I try to resize the images? I have a plugin (Regenerate Thumbnail) that may be able to assist with this.

Additionally, this was not an issue with the other themes I've used. Just this one.

Thanks again for your help. I greatly appreciate it!:)

When I look at the dimensions of your images they all are not wide enough to fill the area you want. You can force it wider by resizing but they may pixellate. When I want to resize an image on click on the image and then click the little properties icon and set the width to what I want but leave the height blank. The height will auto adjust.

IamAshleyGaGa Apr 6, 2013 07:10 AM

Yes,
I have done as you suggested several times. However, the images do not resize. Instead, they become distorted (as in the example I showed you before). This is true with all of the images on my site. I'm not sure of how else I can explain the problem to you. Maybe there is no solution.

I am certain the images are large enough to fill the space. However, something seems to be keeping them restrained to that one area. No matter what I try, they will not extend the width of the content area. I have tried to resize the images and resize the border, however nothing works. I have even gone into Desktop>Tools>Media to manipulatie the situation that way. But it didn't work.

Whatever is wrong is only affecting my images and not my videos or text.

This is a little bothersome.

If you want to PM me with a login to your site I can take a look. There are a lot of variables.

Here is a video of how to resize an image that is not big enough. Maybe it will help.

IamAshleyGaGa Apr 6, 2013 08:08 PM

Yes.
I will PM you right away!
Thanks so much for your help!

lmilesw Apr 6, 2013 11:31 PM

Just so others know. The images were not resizing as expected because the Photon module of the Jetpack plugin was activated. You can read about what it does in the Jetpack settings.
