[SOLVED] Theme Specific Challenge 3.4.3.......HELP!!

I am building a website for my church using this theme based on my awesome past experience. However, the "tech guy" has us using 1&1 Hosting. Not at all like using Host Gator. Something is seriously wrong.

Using this theme with the current version of WordPress, plugins hang and will not automatically install. The security related plugins shut the WP dashboard down. Switching to the default WP theme, I have no problems with downloading and installation of all plugins.

When I switched back to this theme the screen when blank except for an Error 500 Server Error. Now I have nothing and don't know how to resuscitate my WP dashboard with any theme. Our temporary link: http://s227499057.onlinehome.us

Please help on this. Should I simply reinstall 3.4.3 as another version and try again? I am under a time crunch on this and at a loss here.

Thank you,
Craig

Solved the problem after having to Google the error. Simply renamed the Plugins folder and that cinched it as the culprit within. It appears to be a challenge with the security plugins. However, now I have no page visual editor......again.

Make sure you are using php5 - check 1and1's FAQ about setting it up - I beleive they default to php4

I am so glad you responded, as I was hoping. As usual, you are right on the money. I haven't tried this yet but wanted to share what I learn for the benefit of others who may face the same challenge.

"With 1&1 Linux hosting packages you have the choice between PHP 4 and
PHP 5. To distinguish a script as PHP 5, simply name the script with the file
extension .php5.

While the PHP developers have done their utmost to ensure compatibility, we cannot
guarantee that PHP 4 scripts will function 100% correctly under PHP 5.

Please note that in contrast to PHP 4, the default for the variable RegisterGlobals
is "off".

By default Apache uses PHP 4 for .php extension. If you don't want to rename all your
scripts to .php5 you can do the following:
Create a .htaccess file and place the following line AddType x-mapp-php5 .php in it.

This will tell Apache to use PHP 5 instead of PHP 4 for the extension .php in the
directory the .htaccess is placed and all sub-directories under it.

You can use AddHandler x-mapp-php5 .php as an alternative for or instead of
AddType x-mapp-php5 .php"
~ FAQs at 1&1.

Thank you,
Craig
