embed phpbb forums using wp-united or otherwise?

I would like to embed our PHPBB forums into my atahualpa themed WP blog. Has anyone tried using WP-United or otherwise to achieve this? Does it work?

I just recently tried to do this with wp-united and it didn't look bad but there were a few things out of wack because of the atahualpa css effect on phpbb3's layout. I found it was just easier to modify pro silver to match.

I created my own header with the html inserts and modified the footer (extra widget areas) so I just copied the html of those over to the overall header/footer template and I also added a div which I styled the same as the layout for atahualpa.

You can see the results here http://2buttons.net also I used http://beta.colorizeit.com/ to recolor the prosilver theme. I tweaked the color some myself but the colorize it site gave me a nice jump on it. I still have more work on it it but gives you a good idea.

If you end up doing your own php3 theme to match you may want to use another integration method of wp and phpbb. WP-United wouldn't log users into Wordpress so I found this wordpress plug in instead http://www.simplicitypoint.com/2009/...phpbb3-bridge/ . I haven't tried it but it seems like a much easier solution since you don't have to touch the phpbb install (at least my understanding so far).

Hello,

I produce WP-United. Just saw this post, and I need to warn against the misinformation. WP-United is designed to log in users automatically. If yours wasn't, either you were meeting a bug, or more likely, you hadn't set up the integration permission levels in phpBB3 correctly. WP-United has always supported auto log-in of phpBB users into WordPress. That is the idea it wa initially built around when I started developing it in 2006.

For template integration, I'm working on adding auto-detection of colliding classes/IDs, and modifying CSS on the fly so it doesn't clash. Look out for it coming soon.

@Chance1376

As I am testing forum software for a WP site that I still have to release (with atahualpa theme), it is interesting to read your post.

Re the integration into Atahualpa, and me being totally not at ease with writing my own css/html code, what was out of whack when you uploaded phpbb3?

I'm currently testing SimplePress. Another option is BBPress but somehow that does not appeal to me.

If I am not good at writing my own code, how easy is it to install phpbb3 into my website?

I'm running WP2.7.1, Atahualpa 3.3.3. and currently testing simplepress 4.0.3.

What version of WP and Atahualpa are your running on your site? (Looks nice by the way)

Thanks, Mamboe

hope to put some new life into this old thread.
I've searched the forum for more issues on phpbb3, but this is the only one.

so here is my problem:

- running wordpress 2.9.1 with Atahualpa theme 3.4.5 on www.geomen.nl
- running phpbb3 forum 3.0.6 on www.geomen.nl/forum

i tried to embed the forum in the Atahualpa theme, so i made a page with the following code:

<iframe src ="http://www.geomen.nl/forum" width="100%" height="1200" marginwidth=0 marginheight=0 frameborder=0 scrolling=auto></iframe>

But this does not look very nice, there are two scrollbars when browsing the forum.
I actually want my site to look like this: http://2buttons.net/
So can somebody help me ?

I recently wrote this article on integrating forums with WordPress, and review some of the choices, related to my own experiences. I cover wp-united in some detail, along with bbpress, phpbb, Joomla, simplepress and other options. I used wp-united for many months before recently uninstalling it.
