[SOLVED] How do i make these page/cat menu background bars go away?

using wp 3.0
ata 3.5.3

I went ahead and page centered my menu so you can see the light and dark grey bars that go across the page. even if i put my %pages/%cats above the %logo, those 2 bars below are still there.

i cant seem to find the code where they even show up.
