My only comment would be about the huge white space in the centre and the very long right sidebar on the main pages. I would be tempted to make the number showing in your archives from ten to five perhaps and the number of tweets showing three with the slider bar giving people options to see more.
I would make your style sheet and javascript external to cut down on the amount of coding before your content (ATO/ Configure CSS and JS at the bottom) I also think the 3d tag cloud is fun. |
I don't know about the white space, I using Linux's chromium browser which is basically google chrome and my browser window is 1240x900. When I maximize my browser, the logo gets centered and my header image doesn't fill the entire width but that is because of the image. Here is how I see it at 1240x900
1240x900 and here it is at full screen. Full Screen I fixed that problem. :) Quote:

http://www.wholehearted.com.au/ Thanks again for the support with my questions. |
Hi Keith. This looks great. I have a couple of suggestions around content, which you can toss if you want. I am not immediately clear what you can do for me when I go to your page. Perhaps I have done a search for corporate retreats and found your page...what will make me stay beyond the nice design?
You have about 5 seconds to let people know they have come to the right place. So I am suggesting something like this close to the top: Are you a company that: * needs a place for executives to retreat to develop a strategic plan * wants the time to plan for a cultural change * desires to work out a way to develop authentic leadership Are you an individual that * something something * something something * something something So now, I see examples right on the front page of the work you do. Also, there is no "call to action." i.e. "If you are ready to talk, we are ready to listen! Why not call us today?" (with a link to the contact page. |
Thanks Sharon. I'll feed that back to the team that developed the content.

http://www.redroof.jp/ http://www.djd-vine.com http://najapan.org/okinawa/ http://setup.core.glbb.ne.jp/work/ Some of mine, I find Atahualpa to be very versatile. Love it. Steve |
Hi Steve
http://www.djd-vine.com is not a WordPress or Atahualpa site http://setup.core.glbb.ne.jp/work/ is not a WordPress or Atahualpa site The redroofschool site is nice, but it is disorienting to go to a completely different design for Games and Blog and to have to use the back button to return to the site. Best practice is that navigation should be the same on all pages. The rounded banner is a nice feature on a couple of these |
Hi Sharon ,
No, they are Wordpress and atahualpa with custom pages. Yeah I agree about the navigation, but I wanted the games to be different for the kids. And the blog is an external site. Steve |
Woops, I see now that the form is Atahualpa. My error, I apologize. But as for the other one, when I check the source, I see no wp coding, and when I checked it here:
http://whatwpthemeisthat.com/ ...it tells me "www.djd-vine.com/ does not appear to be a WordPress site." Still, I like it, I like the retro background. |
The home page fore www.djd-vine.com does not appear to be WP but all the "inside" pages show Atahualpa as the theme.
|
AHA!! My only suggestion would be to make the CSS and JS external (down at the bottom of Atahualpa Options.
That way, your actual content is closer to the top of the page and I believe it loads faster if I am not mistaken. |
Ok good idea thanks.

Beta for Postal Swim Meet
Almost done! |
Really nice! I like the banner photo..very action packed.
I would actually like to see a video on this front page, maybe under "Distance is Relative" of a spectacular butterfly stroke swimmer or something...just something a little interactive. Even a wp-cycle plug in photo gallery, so that something moves, since this is all about movement. What is the nifty registration fly out called? |
Quote:
Yes to the video We are planning on capturing a few and thats a good idea to put one there. thanks.. |
Thank you! I can hardly wait to try it out!

www.swimflyfast.com It was a little rough in the water |
Wow! That is super! Just what it needed! Your first banner is gone. I liked that. You do have a couple of different banners, but why don't you put them all in the header folder and allow them to rotate rther than assign banners to certain pages?
Also, it is a good idea to make your js and css external (Theme Options, down at the bottom) This is coming along beautifully. |

The little announcement line under the header image is from a plugin called "Announcement ticker highlighter scroller. Another easy one to use. |
Please forgive the lousy sound, but here is how you make your JS and CSS files external. It is very easy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zejp7ske4Nw

New site with transparancy and backgrounds: http://www.plantpack.net/ :)
|
Shouldn't 'mould' be 'mold'? At least in the US that's what it is
Oops, now I see that that is the British variant of 'mold' |
Both OK I guess: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mold
In all senses of the word. Both spellings have been used since the sixteenth century.[154] In Canada, both words have wide currency.[155] When speaking of the noun describing a form for casting a shape, the US will also use the "mould" spelling, but defaults to "mold" when referring to the fruiting bodies of tiny fungi. In New Zealand, "mold" is the spelling adopted when describing a form for casting a shape while "mould" is used when referring to a fungus |
But what do think about the site? ;)

Looks nice, the only thing I see is that on my ipad, the background loads after everything else and causes a slight shift of the page. |
Thx! ist's not completely finished ;)
|
you should reduce the quality of the background images. The bike is 315K! I was able to reduce it's quality 95% - to 86K and there is very little noticable loss of image. (I did it on a Mac using EasyCrop)
|
Good tip I amgoing to do that right away, thx! :)

Ber\Art This is one of the best ones I have seen! Congratulations!
|
Thank you very much :)
|
I think it is absolutely gorgeous.
I am looking for the css to make the transparency, I see this: background-color: transparent; background-image: url("images/plantpack_content_background_03.png"); Is that what does it? Amazing. |
Here's my latest - www.qiholistictherapies.co.uk - I know the pricing page needs a little formatting work but the owner is looking to move to a cart type solution (probably ECWID) and I'm trying to educate them in updating the site themselves (for minor updates anyway!)
|
@GarethP... Much of your text in the header is barely readable (black text on the dark blue background).
|
I have to concur with lmilesw. While this is very tastefully done, I do not have fabulous eyesight and the tiny, pale gray font on the warm gray background is very difficult for me to read. With an aging population, you want to make your font easy to read. I know the body text default is .8 em, but I usually change it to at least 14 or 15px.
Also, the photo of the pink flowers next to the wet rocks has been stretched horizontally without constraint so it looks unprofessional. Make sure that when you are sizing photos to fit your banner that you never just stretch in one direction. Thirdly, make your CSS/JS an external file. If you view your source code you have many many lines of css, which should be external, as it brings your actual content closer to the top. I hope you succeed in making the shop internal rather than going to another page, that is quite the transition! this is a matter of personal taste, but I would space out the navigation items further using something like this in the ATO/HTML/CSS...add something to the right, anyway, it looks all jammed over. div#menu1 ul.rMenu li a, div#menu2 ul.rMenu li a { padding: 6px 10px; } Lastly, when you have 20-30 things in a list, break the list up every five or so with a line break. It is hard to read text that dense, especially when it is that small. As for training, I usually do 1/2 or 3/4 of an hour of training with my customers, and then I provide them with a link to my page where I have links to youtube videos I have made. Basic how to open a page, upload media, create links etc. I use something called Active Presenter, which is easy to use and which has a great export feature, you can turn it into anything you want. If they are your videos in your voice, then it reaffirms for them that you are their webmaster, not some Canadian person with a whole bunch of Youtube videos ;) |
Thanks for your comments - I have already implemented the menu spacing and external CSS :).
I will pass on the colour comments to the owner - but I agree (especially as I am colour-blind) about the black on dark grey, but the owner has insisted to try and keep the site calming... Keep looking, you may see some changes soon! Unfortunately the store that is currently linked in the menu must remain as is - something to do with the affiliate licencing, but a demo of the 'on-site' store can be seen at www.qiholistictherapies.co.uk/store ECWID integrates quite nicely with Wordpress (some minor colour updates required here too) SharonJ - not sure what you mean by; Quote:

Just checked your page out again and wanted to subscribe. it will not accept my email, I tried it twice. Is there a problem? My information was correct.
My other comment is that you are in danger of "tastefulling yourself to death." Gray on gray is very chic, but at some point becomes barely readable. http://jacksononthemoon.com/bytesforall/grayongray.JPG i wear glasses, but even so, I have to strain to see the lettering on the tabs at the top. This is called contrast ratio, and yours is (for me) far too low. |
