Thanks. I'll remember that for my next upgrade.

Can someone recommend a plugin to put comment summaries on the front page? I kind of got lost in the options on the comment plug in page.

Also, I want to eliminate the 'categories' section on the front page. Advice?

Many thanks for all the information.

  • Have you checked out any at wordpress.org?
  • Do you want the comments in the sidebar or on the page?
If the categories that is in the sidebar is not there because of a widget you placed there it is a default widget. This will go away when you put a widget in the sidebar.

Yes, the available plugins are part of WP.org.

I want the comment summary on the front page.

I don't understand using widgets in ATA. The widget page doesn't allow any changes with this theme although this is not true with other themes. No modifications are allowed here. I would SO like to know that I was wrong about that.

Thanks.

Sorry. I didn't know I hadn't answered your questions until I had submitted and had another chance to look at your comment.

I want the comments in a sidebar on the front page.

If I can't create a widget, does that mean I can't remove the 'categories' or the 'recent posts'? As I said, can't tell how to add or remove widgets. I think both 'categories' and 'recent posts' are default widgets.

In WordPress if you click on Appearance>Widgets you should see four widget areas Right, Left, Inner Right, and Inner Left). You drag the appropriate widgets into the sidebar you want it in.

Here is the message under 'widgets'.

"Drag widgets from here to a sidebar on the right to activate them. Drag widgets back here to deactivate them and delete their settings."

In the ATA theme there is no sidebar on the right and no way to drag them anywhere. they appear to be defaults.

Would love to know that I've missed something.

You need to set up your sidebars. You must have removed them all, somehow. It's in the theme options, configure sidebars. You simply figure out whether you want left, right, right inner, left inner sidebars, and where you want them, by clicking the appropriate boxes. New widget areas can be created in other places in the theme as well.

If you notice, the Gazette has 2 sidebars with many widgets.

You may have a plugin conflict. It seems like I have seen that symptom before. You can start by deactivating all you plugins. Then if that fixes the problem you can start reactivating until the problem comes back. If you still have no place to drag widgets after deactivating all the plugins we will have to look further.

Paula... I think sjolyjuly is saying there are no widget areas showing in Appearance>Widgets and with Atahualpa even if you have no sidebars showing the widget containers should be showing there.

The logo image option has no field to edit the filename of the image/select a different image in my dash on 3.5.3:

http://www.visioncareoneonline.com/w...goimagebug.jpg

(i tried to change the image by going through the theme files which is why it says "Default: logo.gif" instead of logo.png, but i couldn't find the right file to edit.)

juggledad Sep 24, 2010 03:49 PM

There should be a space there where you can enter a value. Have you edited any of the theme code?

If not try temporally disabling all your plugins to see if one is causing a conflict

paulae Sep 24, 2010 04:50 PM

Larry, maybe so, but as you know, the dashboard area is Wordpress and has nothing to do with which theme you're using. Of course you're right that a plugin conflict may be messing up the admin area. This seemed to happen pretty often several iterations of WP ago, but I haven't seen it myself in a long time.

What version of PHP are you at kindofadraag? You should be at least PHP 5

sjolyjuly Sep 25, 2010 03:14 PM

1milesw and Juggledad - you were so right. I deactivated my plugins and there it was! all the widgets right where they should be. After I installed the widgets I wanted I reactivated the plugins. Magic! Thanks very much. :):):):)
